Which question do you want to trace?
Where could you start with a real question?
An unfamiliar address prefix may point to a newer output type, but it cannot explain every feature of that upgrade. Compare SegWit’s witness and weight model with Taproot’s spending paths, then read the fork guide for compatibility.
How should you connect these guides?
Study the mechanism before the adoption story. SegWit changes transaction representation and weight accounting. Taproot changes supported spending constructions. The forks lesson then asks how a new validity rule relates to earlier rules and when participating nodes begin enforcing it. A feature, a deployment and a lasting chain split are separate concepts.
An address prefix can point toward a spending construction, but cannot explain the entire upgrade. Follow witness data through the SegWit diagram, then compare Taproot’s key and script paths. The address lessons provide the bridge back to encoded receiving instructions, including the checksum variant required by a witness version.
Activation requires specified conditions. A signalling state can precede enforcement, and participants can run different rules. Avoid interpreting a support message as proof that every node checks the same conditions. The deeper fork lesson uses validity sets to explain compatibility without relying on political labels or assumed participant intentions.
For a reading exercise, imagine an output using a newer spending rule. Identify the output type, follow its eventual satisfaction data, and ask what an older node would actually verify. Then ask whether the activated rule tightens validity or permits something the old rules reject. You can reason about compatibility without assuming that every software change creates another asset. Use the linked specifications for exact conditions rather than inferring them from a feature’s name.
When comparing descriptions, identify the rule under discussion before comparing outcomes. A deployment state concerns activation, an output type concerns spending and a split concerns divergent history. Keeping those meanings separate makes the later technical details much easier to follow.
